Rough, steadfast and generous

Running a mountain lodge
on Hardangervidda is a lifestyle

You need to have a passion for nature, a rough climate with all sorts of weather, and not least feel the joy and excitement of sharing your passions with others. We at Halne take pride in giving our guests memorable experiences. Whether you stop for a tasty meal and a nature experience or if you want to stay overnight.

For us who work here, it is important to be able to share the knowledge we have about places to visit, hiking options, local traditions, and cultural history. Where you can catch the big fish and how the grouse population is doing. And not least, share the knowledge and flavours of all the local ingredients we serve and make use of at Halne.

Geirmund Tormodsgard and Ingar Dalen bought Halne Fjellstugu in 2016. Halne had been run as a family business since it was built in 1933. Now the mountain lodge is entering a new era, and we look forward to sharing experiences with our guests.

The Halnefjord cabin

Halnefjordhytta is located on the south-west shore of Halnefjorden and it is possible to rent. The cabin’s location on the shore of Halnefjorden with the river Skaupa flowing right next to it is unique. Here you live in the heart of Hardangervidda and have excellent opportunities for hiking, swimming, boat trips, fishing, and grouse hunting in the autumn. The terrain around the cabin is incredibly beautiful and easy to walk in.

Halnekongen

Halne Fjellstugu is the home of the boat Halnekongen. The popular boat route has been operating since 1954, when the dam at Sleipa was built. Take the boat across the Halnefjord as the start of a hiking trip, or as a round trip. Or how about renting one or more nights at Halnefjordhytta? Halnekongen goes from Halne Fjellstugu to Skaupa/Sleipa. The crossing takes around 40 minutes and can take 37 passengers. It is not necessary to pre-order tickets during the months when Halnekongen has a regular time schedule.

The stone cottage

The old road called Nordre Nordmannslepa passes by the northern end of Halnefjorden and it is said that there were living quarters available in stone cottages by the Halnelægeret as early as in the 17th Century. Steinbua, which is located by Halne Fjellstugu, is a copy of this old type of accommodations.

Steinbua” at Halne has a cozy atmosphere and is used for smaller gatherings. Storytelling and food can be served here, and après-kite and après-ski parties can be organised.

Panoramic sauna

Experience the perfect storm or warm up sore muscles after strenuous outdoor activities. The sauna has room for 6-8 people, and we are happy to heat it up before you arrive. Enjoy the view over Halnefjorden and Hardangervidda while the weather rages outside.

The boathouse

Naustet is the perfect meeting place for a group of friends, colleagues, or a place to celebrate. There is room for 80 people here and the view over Halnefjorden is spectacular. The boathouse is an atmospheric building and can be decorated stylishly or more casually. A party venue for people visiting the mountains.

The Lavvu

The lavvu has room for 48 people. Benches are placed around the fireplace in the middle of the tent, which ensures a warm and cozy atmosphere.

For the time being, the Lavvu concept at Halne is under development, but feel free to contact us if you would like a Lavvu experience.
